Top 3 Grocery Tips to Save Money

Food is a necessity and must always be included in your monthly budget.  If you are looking to save money, finding ways to buy grocery at cheaper prices is always a good place to start. With some time, effort and patience, you may see your grocery bills start shrink. Here are some helpful grocery tips to save money on a budget.

Use Coupons to Save Money on Groceries

Using coupons is the most traditional ways to save money on groceries. Items like newspapers and the Internet are great resources to find coupons. For an added savings bonus, check if a store will double or triple the value of a single coupon. Some grocery stores make it easier and provide their own coupons in the front kiosks of the building. A great strategy to find coupons you need is to write your grocery list and then look online to see if there are any coupons available. When using coupons, you must be conscious of the expiration dates and the exact type of product the coupon is for. Some grocery stores will not use your coupon if the product you are trying to buy does not meet the coupons requirements.

Use Store Loyalty Programs

Research is key to saving a lot of money of groceries. Kelly McFalls, a former spokeswoman for BJ’s Wholesale Club, states, “It’s important to do your research if you are going to save money on groceries. BJ’s Wholesale Club allows its members to use manufacturers’ coupons along with BJ’s coupons found at the front of every store.“ In other words, you can go to stores that allow you to use the double amount of coupons. Stores like Publix also allow you to use two coupons. For example, you can use a Publix coupon and manufacturer’s coupon at the same time. Stores like CVS and Walgreens offer coupons on essentials like toothpaste and deodorant as well as medication or health-related products. Just always make sure to be mindful of the expiration date.

Shop at a Farmer’s Market

If you are buying most of your produce from stores like Walmart, Publix or Costco, you might want to look into buying your fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Local farmer’s markets not only can give you cheaper prices, but a higher quality. Since they are from local farms, the produce is usually fresher and better since there is less preserving to do. Not only are shopping in these little markets great, but you are doing a benefit for your community! When you buy at a local farmer’s market, you are supporting a local family!
